How to Get Rid of Cellulite on Back of Thighs

Cellulite can be an annoying problem for many individuals. Even if you are not overweight or out of shape,  cellulite is embarrassing and unsightly. Many women get cellulite on the back of the thighs. This makes it hard to wear shorter shorts,  skirts or dresses,  and going to the beach in a bikini is nearly impossible!

Fortunately,  there are some great things you can do to get rid of cellulite on the back of the thighs. The methods and remedies in this article will help you take care of ugly cellulite and get you back on track with beautifully smooth skin.

What Is Cellulite and Why Does It Appear on the Backs of Thighs?

Cellulite is actually just fat,  but it is a particular kind of fat called subcutaneous fat. It tends to build directly under the skin,  and it is not necessarily evenly dispersed,  therefore,  it causes a dimpling of the skin above it that people call cellulite.

Cellulite often appears on the backs of women’s thighs because this is an area where a lot of women carry extra weight—especially pear-shaped women who have smaller waists. The fat collects on these meatier parts of the legs and causes that dimpled effect on the skin.

1. Tone Your Thighs With Exercise

Exercise—both cardiovascular fitness and strength training—can help you lose fat and gain muscle. Losing fat reduces the cellulite appearance on the skin,  and when that area of the body is replaced with muscle,  the result is a more toned overall appearance of the body.

  • Cardiovascular exercise will help your reduce fat. This type of exercise includes running,  playing tennis or soccer,  swimming or biking. Get at least 30 minutes of tough cardio in 4-5 times per week.
  • You will also want to strength train to help reduce fat and tone up by adding muscle. You can weight train with free weights,  a weight machine or just with your own body weight. Try taking a strength training class at your local gym or following an exercise video program.

2. Lose Fat in the Thighs by Dieting

Many women get the cellulite appearance on the backs of their thighs because they carry too much extra fat on their bodies. It stands to reason,  then,  that losing that fat via dieting will allow them to have much smoother skin with little fat underneath.

  • When dieting to lose fat,  you’ll need to cut some foods out of your daily eating routine. Try to stay away from sugar in any form as much as possible. Say no to cupcakes,  candies,  cakes,  chocolate and ice cream.
  • You should also avoid lots of carbohydrates. Once carbs like white bread,  white rice,  pasta and other grain-based foods reach your digestive system,  they are actually converted to sugars. Your body will store them as fat.
  • In addition to cutting out sugar and carbs,  try to get more fruits,  veggies and lean proteins into what you normally eat. You can do this by eating more stir fry dishes,  salads,  wraps and veggie-based soups. Aim for at least 4 to 6 services of fruits and veggies each day.

3. Try Cosmetics,  Serums and Creams

There are some special cosmetics,  serums and creams that can help people smooth out the top of their skin so that the fat does not appear through it and cause the trademark dimpling of cellulite. These products can most often be purchased online or at drugstores.

  • Creams and serums that contain vitamin E oil will help a lot at evening out the skin. Massage the oil into your skin daily. You might also try exfoliating each time you take a shower with an exfoliator scrub.
  • Some cosmetics may be able to help you. Instead of only using makeup foundation on your face,  you can try using it on the backs of your thighs. Use your normal brand or find a “body foundation” brand that is specially formulated for the rest of the body. Self tanner also works.

4. Massages the Cellulite Away

Massage can actually do a great deal to dislodge sedentary fat cells and rearrange them so that they do not cause as much dimpling and cellulite on the backs of thighs. You can massage your own thighs,  or you can get massaged for the reduction of cellulite by professional massage therapists.

  • If you choose to do your own massage,  simply spend 5 minutes rubbing your hands into the backs of your thighs each day. Use an oil to help your hands glide more easily over your skin.
  • Massage therapists often offer special massages that are specifically created to help reduce cellulite on the backs of thighs and elsewhere on the body. The hips and buttocks are other key places where cellulite often turns up.

5. Fix Cellulite on the Thighs With Medical Procedures

Finally,  there are some medical tricks that you can look into. These procedures will need to be done by professionals,  and you should keep in mind that they might cost a little more than the other methods mentioned in this article.

  • Laser treatments are one possibility. The results of this procedure will vary,  but they can really help to reduce the fat that sits directly below that top layer of skin and causes cellulite.
  • Plastic surgery is another possibility,  but make sure you check with a quality doctor or surgeon before delving into this. Your family doctor may be able to help you find a licensed plastic surgeon who can discuss your options with you

The medical procedures mentioned in this article are a last resort,  so try the more natural methods like losing weight and using creams first. Following the directions in this article will help you get rid of that unsightly cellulite on the backs of your thighs once and for all.
