How to Use Tea Tree Oil for Acne Treatment

Natural tea tree oil is an excellent acne-fighting alternative to over the counter or prescription medications.  It has innate disinfecting properties that allow it to take care of acne-causing bacteria and still leave your skin with its natural oils.  Use this effective tool against your next pimple,  and see the difference it can make.

Cleanse Skin Gently

Use a face wash that is noncomedogenic (won’t clog pores) to gently cleanse the area where you have a pimple.  Use clean fingertips or a soft cloth.

Pat Dry

Use a clean towel to pat the area dry.  Never rub your skin dry as this could cause irritation and lead to more skin damage.

Use a Cotton Swab for Application

You only need a tiny amount of tea tree oil to get its benefits.  Pour a drop or two of the oil on the end of a cotton swab,  then dab it lightly and gently onto the affected area of the skin.  Leave it on for a few hours or overnight.  You will notice that swelling and redness will immediately begin to go down.

To work its magic,  tea tree oil can tend to be a bit drying.  As an alternative to straight tea tree oil on the pimple,  you can mix it beforehand with a bit of aloe vera gel,  which will help to moisturize the area without clogging pores.  Otherwise, just wait until the straight tea tree oil is dry,  and use a gentle moisturizer.

Finally,  make sure that you are using only 100% natural and organic tea tree oil.  You don’t want any byproducts that could be toxic to clog your skin.  After you spot treat,  to keep your skin pimple-free,  consider adding a few drops to your daily cleanser.  You’ll certainly see a difference in skin clarity with tea tree oil.
